Moscow Elegy
(1987)|
Interweaving clips from Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky's movies with commentary on the political circumstances that were reshaping his homeland, filmmaker Aleksandr Sokurov trains an admiring lens on his cinematic guru in this moving documentary. Sokurov chronicles Tarkovsky's battle for personal expression amid an artistically oppressive atmosphere that led to the visionary director's self-exile in Western Europe.
