Mother Joan of the Angels

  (1962)
Called to a 17th century Polish convent to investigate demonic possession among a group of nuns, a priest (Mieczyslaw Voit) encounters an unexpected obstacle: He's attracted to the mother superior (Lucyna Winnicka), who seems to find him equally fetching. Considered a landmark film in its native Poland, director Jerzy Kawalerowicz's symbolic drama is a loose adaptation of Aldous Huxley's The Devils of Loudun.
