In A Rainy Day (1978), an actress (Mariette Hartley) returns home for her father's funeral for the first time in five years and mends fences with her overprotective mother (Collin Wilcox Paxton). In Summer's End (1984), a 10-year-old (Jennifer Miller) fights to keep her pigtails far away from her mother's scissors.
