Eugene O'Neill's play comes to life through Rosalind Russell's portrayal of Lavinia Mannon, the daughter of war veteran Ezra Mannon (Raymond Massey). In post-Civil War New England, Ezra comes home from battle to find that his wife, Christine (Katina Paxinou), has been spending time with a younger man. A bitter argument results in Christine murdering her husband, and Lavinia and her brother Orin (Michael Redgrave) are left to pick up the pieces.
