Kailash (Shashi Kapoor), his wife, Seema (Vidya Sinha), and their daughter live an insular, happy existence until misfortune strikes and Kailash is separated from his family. Seema continues to cherish the memory of her husband but finds that life on her own isn't easy. An upright man (Sanjeev Kumar) offers her an honorable marriage and wishes to be a father to her daughter, but when the past collides with the present, their lives are disrupted.
