My Enemy, The Sea

  (1963)
Based on true events, this gripping maritime adventure tells the story of a young Japanese sailor (played by Yûjirô Ishihara) determined to cross the Pacific solo in a small handmade sloop. Of course, there's plenty of drama to be had on the high seas as he makes his historic voyage. Kenichi Horie, the mariner whose achievements inspired the Golden Globe-nominated film, offered his logbook as the basis for the script.
