Former best friends and rivals in love Michael (Paul Reiser) and Joey (Greg Evigan) get a crash course in parenthood when they take joint custody of 12-year-old Nicole (Staci Keanan) after her mother -- whom Michael and Joey both dated -- passes away. In the show's first season, the men cope with Nicole's newfound interest in boys, emerging independence, and questions about which of her two dads is her biological father.
