Surfers in the know are well aware of the legendary events that unfolded along Oahu's North Shore on Wednesday, January 28, 1998. That day, the waves rose like giants, ready to engulf anyone who dared face their wrath, as winds and weather patterns stoked the water to overwhelming proportions. But for a handful of supremely dedicated surfers, the waves beckoned to be tamed -- by nothing more than a surfboard and the power of the human will.
