Academy Award nominee Gena Rowlands stars in director Terence Davies's bittersweet trip into the American South of the 1940s, based on the book by John Kennedy Toole. David (jointly played by Jacob Tierney and Drake Bell) laments his racist father (Denis Leary), his weak-minded mother (Diana Scarwid) and the oppressive narrowness of his Bible Belt surroundings. But his vivacious Aunt Mae (Rowlands) could be his ticket to freedom.
