Peter Finch won a British Academy Award for his performance as a member of parliament in this political drama. Johnnie Byrne (Finch) has an affair with a model (Mary Peach) after losing out on an important cabinet post and enduring years of shabby treatment from his communist wife (Rosalie Crutchley). But when the frustrated politician has another chance at career advancement, he finds he'll have to choose between his professional life and love.
