In this delightful satire based on Ivan Goncharov's 19th-century novel of the same name, bureaucrat and absentee Russian landlord Ilya Ilyich Oblomov (Oleg Tabakov) has chosen to spend the remainder of his life in bed. But everything changes with the arrival of a boyhood friend (Yuri Bogatyryov) who rouses the indolent Oblomov from his slumber and helps him find a purpose in life by introducing him to a genteel young woman (Yelena Solovey).
