Inspired by the 1987 documentary Too Little, Too Late, this film is centered on a judgmental small-town waitress named Luanne (Ann-Margret), who must set aside her disapproval and learn to love her AIDS-riddled son, Donald Barnes (Zeljko Ivanek), unconditionally. In the process, she cements a lasting friendship with Audrey (Julie Andrews), the mother of her son's concerned lover, James (Hugh Grant).
