From the holy visions of his childhood through his powerful prophecy and adult ministry, the man who would come to be known as Padre Pio (portrayed by Sergio Castellitto) is the focus of Carlo Carlei's film. Enduring hardship and persecution from the Church during his lifetime, the pious Francisco Forgione blessed the lives of many with his miraculous healing. The Vatican canonized him as a saint in 2002.
