Andrzej Wajda's epic saga follows the story of two Polish families living under Russian rule during the late 1800s and early 1900s. While the Horeszkos hope for independence, the Soplica family supports Russia. A family feud begins when a Soplica kills a Horeszko and the Russians give the Soplicos the Horeszko castle as reward.
