Approaching 40 and with no matrimonial prospects in sight, Montreal college professor Claire Rocheleau (Geneviève Bujold) agrees to wed Chilean political dissident Pablo Torres (Manuel Aranguiz), who faces almost certain execution if deported. Before you can say "marriage of convenience," Canadian immigration officials want proof that the union is genuine -- giving the barely acquainted Claire and Pablo just 48 hours to get to know each other.
