In this film based on Mahesh Elkunchwar's highly regarded Marathi-language play, socialite Mrs. Damyanti Rane (Vijaya Mehta) hosts a party, a literary soiree of sorts. A prestigious literary award has been announced, and some winners are in attendance. The most eagerly awaited guest in the activist poet Amrit (Nasseruddin Shah). But as the evening wears on, the masks of the host and guests drop, and they're revealed to be shallow hypocrites.
