In this bizarre but warmhearted black-and-white musical written by Dennis Potter and directed by Herbert Ross, traveling sheet music salesman Arthur (Steve Martin) entices innocent teacher Eileen (Bernadette Peters) in Depression-era Chicago. When Arthur and Eileen set out on a series of misadventures, their bleak world turns to song and dance in a series of lavish Busby Berkeley-style musical numbers. Christopher Walken and Jessica Harper co-star.
