This bittersweet look at life and love chronicles the relationship of middle-aged couple Pete (Walter Matthau, in an award-winning performance) and Tillie (Carol Burnett), from their rocky first dates and deepening friendship to marriage and eventual separation. Oscar nominations went to Geraldine Page for her role as Tillie's obnoxious pal, as well as screenwriter Julius Epstein for his poignant adaptation of Peter DeVries's novel Witch's Milk.
