Strange things tend to happen in Rome, Wis., and it's up to Sheriff Jimmy Brock (Tom Skerritt) to keep the peace and make sense of it all. In between his law-enforcement duties, Brock raises his three kids with his wife, Jill (Kathy Baker), the town's doctor. Within this microcosm of Americana, issues such as religious strife, medical ethics and homophobia force the townspeople to come to terms with their prejudices and beliefs.
