Two John Ford dramas examine the impact of war. Born Reckless follows a gangster who is forced to enlist as part of a judge's election campaign. In Pilgrimage, a mother disapproves of her son's pregnant fiancée and pushes him to join the Army. She later comes to terms with her decision while on a trip to Europe to visit her fallen son's grave but must reconcile with the fiancée if she wants to help raise her grandson.
