After having a one-night-stand with an aspiring screenwriter (Mary-Louise Parker), a New York City plumber (Martin Donovan), frustrated about the way his profession is perceived by women, decides to steal Parker's script and pose as a director to expand his chances in the dating arena. Donovan's scheme takes an unexpected turn, however, when his project gains "buzz" and Parker finds out what he's been doing with her script!
