Exiled from Argentina for more than two decades, Carmen (Cecilia Roth) returns to say goodbye to her dying father and manage his inheritance. Painful memories of her imprisonment and torture during the dictatorship reemerge as she mends tattered relationships. Emotionally distressed, Carmen begins to lead a double life and enters into a relationship with a hustler named Gana Bertolini (Gael Garcia Bernal).
