Quartet

  (1981)
An aimless girl (Isabelle Adjani) and her shiftless husband (Anthony Higgins) are caught up in the literary social whirl of Paris in the 1920s. Soon, they become the protégés (or are they just an amusing diversion?) of two rich, bored Britons (Maggie Smith and Alan Bates). Amid seedy cafés, colorful hotels and smoky jazz haunts, this quartet of individuals dangerously intertwines. James Ivory directs.
