Set in Shanghai during the glamorous 1930s and '40s, this two-part romance follows the trials of one man (Winston Chao) who finds himself in love with two very different women. First, there's the fiery Chiao-jui (Joan Chen), a woman he nicknames "Red Rose" -- and who just so happens to be his best friend's wife. Then there's the gentle Yen-li (Veronica Yip), his beloved "White Rose" whom he falls for and marries before breaking her heart.
