Rock Around the Clock

  (1956)
This nostalgia-packed time capsule, often called the first rock-'n'-roll musical, charts the fictitious rise of Bill Haley and the Comets, who climb from small-town obscurity to nationwide success with help from famed deejay Alan Freed. Along with the title tune, Haley sings "See You Later, Alligator" and "Razzle Dazzle." The fun includes vintage jitterbugging and appearances by the Platters, who croon "Only You" and "The Great Pretender."
