Royal Hunt of the Sun

Peter Schaffer (Amadeus) and Philip Yordan (El Cid) adapt Schaffer's play, set in 1555 Peru, about the match of wits between conquistador Francisco Pizarro (Robert Shaw) and Inca god-chief Atahualpa (Christopher Plummer). After slaughtering most of Atahualpa's followers, Pizarro and his army hold the Inca leader hostage in return for a fortune in gold. Leonard Whiting (who played Romeo in Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet) co-stars.
