Unable to break Sagina (Dilip Kumar) -- a charismatic Indian laborer with plenty of pull among the workers -- a British company's frustrated management sends him to Calcutta. In his absence, the company tries to convince the employees that their beloved Sagina has deserted them. Upon his return, he finds his former compatriots against him and his hard-fought gains down the drain in this powerful Bollywood drama from director Tapan Sinha.
