Using raw footage he collected over several years, filmmaker João Moreira Salles crafts a moving portrait of his parents' longtime butler, a man who not only ran the household but also recited poetry and played the piano, among other talents. The result is an often haunting reflection on the components of a person's identity and those traits that make us memorable to the ones we leave behind.
