We know little about secret societies, such as the Freemasons and Illuminati, yet they count some of history's most powerful figures in their ranks. Author Philip Gardiner explores these underground organizations, uncovering their roots and rites. He examines the influence they've exerted in world events while managing to maintain an almost impervious code of secrecy. He also seeks to find a link between "enlightenment" and mind control.
