Secrets of the Tribe

  (2009)
In the 1960s and '70s, a flood of researchers descended on the Amazon Basin to study the Yanomami Indians. Filmmaker José Padilha investigates the ongoing controversy over their treatment of the indigenous tribe. Charges of gross sexual and medical misconduct inflicted by the researchers have ignited decades of conflict within the academic community over anthropologists' ethical obligations and their colonialist approach to observing "the other."
