In hopes of mending his shattered life, struggling teacher Ben (D.L. Hughley) takes a job with the state prison's inmate education program. Ben's unorthodox teaching methods and freestyle rapping inspires hardened prisoners, including talented slam-poet Gabriel (Jose Pablo Cantillo). Gabriel enters a competition outside of the prison, but when a deadly riot erupts, Ben realizes he may never be able to rehabilitate his students.
