Ex-addict Michael Holloway (Balthazar Getty) is trying to walk the straight and narrow, supporting his pregnant wife by working nights at a gas station -- a job that frays his nerves. So when dapper novelist Stuart Chappell (Peter Weller) pulls up to the pump looking for a research assistant, Michael jumps at the chance. As the amoral Stuart leads Michael through the corrosive cesspool of a Los Angeles netherworld, will he lapse into old habits?
