During a period of civil war, married couple and retired musicians Eva and Jan Rosenberg (Liv Ullmann and Max von Sydow) retreat to a remote island farm, but their peaceful idyll is shattered when the island is overrun by rebel troops. Struggling hard to survive brings out the worst in Eva and Jan, and their relationship suffers what could be a fatal blow. Directed by Swedish master Ingmar Bergman.
