This classic tearjerker from 1956 chronicles the star-crossed romance between common-born Farhad and the lovely Princess Shirin. When the shah learns of his daughter's feelings, he grants Farhad an opportunity to win her hand: He must dig a 40-mile-long canal in the rocky land in the hills. This version of the frequently filmed ancient Persian epic poem stars prolific Indian actors Pradeep Kumar and Madhubala as the lovers.
