Many years after the Civil War in Barcelona, a merchant falls for a prostitute, and more open-ended, interweaving stories -- all of which swiftly move back and forth through time -- unfold in this drama. Antonio Banderas, Victoria Abril and Jorge Sanz star, with Sanz nabbing Spain's Goya Award for a Best Actor performance. Vicente Aranda co-writes and directs this adaptation of a novel by Juan Marsé called Aventis.
