Andrei Konchalovsky's epic masterpiece -- which spans Russian history from before the Bolshevik Revolution through the two World Wars and the modern era -- won the Special Jury Prize at Cannes. The drama chronicles the fates of two Siberian families -- the wealthy Solomins and the proletariat Ustyuzhanins -- exploring their conflicts and alliances through the generations.
