Melinda (Alessandra De Rossi) arrives in the simple town of Malawig full of dreams and aspirations. The hopeful young teacher soon learns that the people of the town have resigned themselves to a dreary existence, never to know or strive for more than the squalor and poverty in which they live. Through an unassuming singing contest, Melinda and the children of the town join together, and their songs give hope to the otherwise solemn citizens.
