After learning that his estranged father -- wealthy mine owner Felipe Solano (Malcolm McDowell) -- has died, Philip Bergman (Esai Morales) travels to Chile and becomes fascinated with the life and death of a man he hardly knew. But the simple act of claiming his inheritance turns into an ugly toe-to-toe with his father's former partner, Garrison Carver (Michael Ironside), who's determined to keep the riches for himself.
