After moving to London with his pub-singer mother, Jill (Lesley Manville), Sam (Shaun Evans) rises quickly at a public relations firm by sleeping with the older owner of the company, Sheila (Stockard Channing). But he puts his career in jeopardy when he falls for Sheila's daughter, Kate (Amanda Ryan). Meanwhile, timid landlord Vince (Bob Hoskins) tries to find the courage to tell Jill he has feelings for her in this romantic comedy from Britain.
