Wartime Paris is the setting in which a young German naval officer is killed during Nazi occupation. Eager to appeal to the war-torn country's desperation for justice, the Régime de Vichy indicts, prosecutes and condemns four countrymen for the crime; their guilt or innocence is inconsequential. Critically acclaimed director Costa-Gavras's period piece about fascism under Marshal Philippe Pétain earned a Golden Globe nod for Best Foreign Film.
