Winona Ryder stars in this 1987 coming-of-age drama based on the novel by Alan Hines. Gemma (Ryder) has grown up in a sheltered environment in rural Texas, abandoned by her mother and raised by her cranky but devoted grandfather, Dillard (Jason Robards). But Gemma's vision of the world is changed forever when her mother shows up and tries to convince her to come live with her in the big city of Ft. Worth. Jane Alexander and Rob Lowe also star.
