Staying On

This sequel to the 1984 British miniseries The Jewel in the Crown tells the love story of Col. Tusker Smaller (Trevor Howard) and his wife, Lucy (Celia Johnson), who chose to "stay on" in India after the departure of the British Army in 1948 ended colonial rule. Clinging to memories of the India of the past, Smaller and his wife become, in effect, post-colonial anachronisms.
