After a vacation through Europe, newly single American expatriate Lillian (Blair Brown) returns to London to find her freewheeling younger sister, Amy (Bridget Fonda), at her flat. The polar opposite of her capricious sister, Lillian exerts total control, even of her love life. Though when a man she met on vacation (Bruno Ganz) tracks her down, determined to marry her, Lillian finds there may be some wisdom in Amy's outlook.
