During World War II, an Italian submarine commander (Renato Baldini) and his crew sink Allied freighters and transport ships -- the survivors of which they rescue and treat humanely until they can find a neutral port to put them ashore. When the commander saves a group of Danish sailors, however, things get dicey when the crew spots -- and must destroy -- a Danish ship in this award-winning drama from director Duilio Coletti.
