Sarah Flanigan Carter's autobiographical novel about growing up in World War II-era Georgia is memorably adapted under the direction of Joan Tewkesbury (Old Boyfriends) in this made-for-television classic. Sara Gilbert is Sudie Harrington, a feisty 12-year-old who befriends Simpson (Louis Gossett Jr.), a gentle black man accused of impropriety with a child. Francis Fisher co-stars as a concerned teacher.
