Douglas Sirk directs this passion-drenched drama centered on Olga Urbenin (Linda Darnell), a sexy Russian peasant who heats things up with an engaged judge (George Sanders), a decadent nobleman (Edward Everett Horton) and an estate superintendent (Hugo Haas), all to get exactly what she wants: the high life. But she ends up bringing nothing but bad luck to the people around her -- not to mention herself.
