To marry off his sons -- and to teach his ex-employer's callous widow, Durgadevi (Nadira), a lesson -- Ratanlal (Shreeram Lagoo) persuades them to pose as a servant and a rich man about town. While Ram (Sanjeev Kumar) joins Durgadevi's household staff to romance her daughter Shanti, Laxman (Shashi Kapoor) masquerades as a wealthy playboy to court daughter Roopa. But the girls' uncle has other wedding plans in mind in this engaging Bollywood yarn.
