Swiss Family Robinson

Edward Ludwig directed this first film adaptation of Johann David Wyss's classic novel. In the early 19th century, the Robinson family -- led by father William (Thomas Mitchell) -- leaves England for Australia and ends up shipwrecked on a deserted South Pacific isle. Doing their best to survive, William, mother Elizabeth (Edna Best) and their four sons work to create an idyllic home, but soon pirates lay siege to the island.
