Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: Take One

  (1968)
Decades before reality TV took hold, director William Greaves made this fiction-documentary hybrid that exposes the high artifice of filmmaking. The action revolves around a pair of actors rehearsing a breakup scene in New York's Central Park. One camera crew is shooting them, another is filming the film crew, and yet another is documenting the film within a film. Soon, actors tire, equipment breaks, and the crew even stages a mini-rebellion.
