David Zinman conducts the London Sinfonietta in this compelling performance of Henryk Gorecki's Symphony no. 3, featuring soprano Dawn Upshaw. Also included are an interview with the Polish composer and moving footage of Gorecki reflecting as he walks the hauntingly empty grounds at Auschwitz, underscoring the music's emotional themes of motherhood, loss and sorrow.
